Balfour Beatty has won a contract to work on a £750m project at Heathrow.

The contractor has been appointed to the airport's Eastern Campus Development Programme by BAA and will provide pre-construction advice and construction services.

The total value of the works could be in the order of circa £750m and would see Balfour Beatty realign the taxiways and provide new aircraft stands in the areas to the east of Terminals 1 and 2, linking the new Heathrow East terminal to the rest of the airport.

Balfour Beatty is currently working on the design, management and construction of the first phase of the Heathrow East Satellite Project, which is scheduled for completion in late 2009 to enable the aircraft stands to be operational in early 2010.

Balfour Beatty chief executive, Ian Tyler, said:

"We are delighted to be continuing our support to BAA on the Eastern Campus Development Programme at Heathrow. Our track record in delivering capital projects for BAA, including the rail systems element of Terminal 5, along with the strong business relationship forged between us, have been instrumental in completing this important agreement."

Balfour Beatty has worked closely with BAA over many years on a number of its key developments including the ongoing civil maintenance framework contracts at Glasgow, Edinburgh and Aberdeen airports.
