Meadowcroft Griffin has been appointed to head a design-led commission by London Thames Gateway Development Corporation (LTGDC) to prepare a delivery and implementation strategy for the Poplar Riverside area of the Lower Lea Valley. LTGDC worked with strategic partners, the London Borough of Tower Hamlets, Design for London and Poplar HARCA, to develop the design-led brief for the three month project. The delivery strategy will aim to inform and influence the LTGDC's investment in Poplar Riverside, taking advantage of its proximity to the proposed Lower Lea Valley Park, upgrades to the DLR Langdon Park station and amenity to the river for the benefit of local residents, as well as to provide an attractive environment for existing and future commercial investment. Peter Andrews, chief executive of LTGDC, said: “This appointment reflects our commitment to working with our partners to develop a framework for world-class urban design in the London Thames Gateway area. Meadowcroft Griffin was selected based on its proven expertise in developing community projects within complex urban areas and its carefully constructed and comprehensive proposal, with particular attention to the issues of sustainability and social cohesion.” Phil Meadowcroft, director at Meadowcroft Griffin, added: “ This presents a fantastic opportunity to transform underused and deprived areas, whilst being sensitive to the wider regeneration, to create attractive residential, commercial and community leisure environments for local people.” The award was made following a competitive open tender. |
